I would make a trip to Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach areas. Great history- lighthouses, aquarium, Battleship North Carolina and great seafood. Check out the Dockside and Oceanic restaurants in Wrightsville Beach.

If you don%26#39;t take your bikes out on the Blue Ridge Parkway, your entire trip will have been wasted. :)
Seriously, take some time to wander on the Parkway for a few hours. From Asheville you can go north or south and not be disappointed. Be aware that a section of the parkway north of Asheville has been closed for quite a while due to a rockslide. It%26#39;s scheduled to reopen in ';late Spring';, so depending on when you go you may want to go south out of Asheville. Check http://www.blueridgeparkway.org/ for updates on the closure, maps, etc.
Many motorcycle riders enjoy ';the dragon'; for a scenic ride between NC and TN in the mountains. Here is a link for more info on the area http://www.dealsgap.com/
Campgrounds near there that cater to motorcycle enthusiast include http://kickstandlodge.com/ and http://ironhorsenc.com/. Of course there are many other campgrounds in the area as well.
Asheville will be a great base for exploring the mountain region of Western North Carolina. There are several RV parks on the east side of Asheville, off of I-40 exits 55 and 59 in all price ranges. I%26#39;ve stayed in Taps and Miles Motors (always has space, and the cheapest). This area is comfortable as a base camp, and very close to downtown Asheville (for restaurants, galleries and attractions) and very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway onramp near the Folk Art Center and the Parkway visitor center. If you take the Parkway south, you will travel west along the high ridgeline which is spectacular, and after 80 miles or so you are at the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Check out asheville-mountain-magic.com/blue-ridge-park/a> for a tour that shows where the highlights are, including some special off parkway places to explore along the way.
Hello Everyone,
We%26#39;re heading to NC next month %26amp; this is all great advice. Thanks.

If you think you might be traveling thru or near Winston-Salem, then Old Salem is definitely worth a good few hours. Restored historic colonial town with live interpreters, functional bakery and a tavern serving lunch and dinner. Great experience.
In Asheboro (not to be confused with Asheville) is the North Carolina Zoo. You could spend a whole day there easy.
I%26#39;d recommend the following if you%26#39;re doing motorcycle day trips:
1. Blue Ridge Pkwy.- it%26#39;s a beautiful drive with severl short hikes available along the way
2. The Dragon%26#39;s Tail near Robbinsville, NC- stop at Joyce Kilmer Ntl. forest to check out the largest poplars in the US- beautiful. You can stay at the Snowbird Mtn. lodge- very nice, relaxed kind of place.
3. Pittsboro, NC- Carnivore Preservation Trust- tiger rescue facility- they do tours at 10am, 1pm on the weekends and twilight tours on Sat. evenings (it%26#39;s a good stop over on the way to somewhere else)
4. Pilot Mountain or Hanging Rock park
5. Wilmington, NC- it%26#39;s a romantic town- check out river st. and arlie gardens.
6. Also, you pretty much can%26#39;t go wrong w/ anywhere on the coast.
Yes, there is alot to see in Asheville... We had been around Asheville, with our RV and only a few park have space for big Coaches. We were here there in May and Rutledge Lake RV park was able to fit us with our Class A with 4 slide out.
The RV park we found to be close to the Asheville, and centrally located for us to go and ride all day and see the Blue Rigde Park Way and could fit us (5th wheel and our Toy Hauler) was Rutledge Lake RV Park.
