Durant Station Condos

We%26#39;re considering traveling to the Outer Banks the second week of September. The Durant Station condos in Hatteras seem perfect for us since they are small with one bedroom. They have quite a few vacancies and that concerns me. I%26#39;d appreciate any information you might have on them. Also are they directly on the ocean or do they just have the ';ocean view'; that agents so often use?

How is the weather in September. Is hurricane insurance recommended?

Durant Station Condos

They are all new , Just over the dune from the Ocean so you will not have a direct view of it unless the last one on the end has a view I have never stayed there since it was rebuilt . I would say the availability is because they are so small most people come with the while family so more room is needed.

The weather then is just like summer except the evenings will be cooler, hurricane insurance would be a good idea depending on their rental policy , as this is the height of that season so you never know..

You might take a chance and wait until the last moment to rent you can avoid this as you said they have plenty of openings

Thanks, fish oinc. What do you think about a second or third floor condo? Would there be a view of the ocean from that vantage? I think I read somewhere about an elevator being installed for 2008 so the climb wouldn%26#39;t be so terrible.

I think there would be but as I said I have not stayed there since the rebuild

Hi Sewmuch,

We are staying there in a couple of weeks. We hope they are nice too. I can let you know. We rented a 2 bedroom. My sister in law decided to go last minute and they still had a opening so she is renting a 1 bedroom.

I was told they are brand new built in 2007. Most people don%26#39;t know about them yet. I%26#39;m hoping they are nice and a good beach location.

In September you may be better off waiting. You might get a better deal.

Good luck and have fun !!!

Tracy- How was your trip? Did you find the Durant Station condos to be nice? How was the beach? Haven%26#39;t made the reservations yet, but am getting antsy! Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi

My sister and I are booked for the week of 8/23 and would also love to hear your feedback!

Hello,

Sorry for the late reply. I have been meaning to do a post. We stayed in Durant Station over 4th of July week. We had a good experience with Outer Beaches Realty and the condo%26#39;s. We rented a 2 bed 2 bath (3rd floor) and my sister in law rented a 1 bed 1 bath. (First floor) We both had nice condo%26#39;s. All the condo%26#39;s are new they were built in fall of 2007. There was a hurricane a few years ago that destroyed the old condo%26#39;s so they built new. Our place was clean and tidy. There was a flat screen TV in all rooms.

All the condo%26#39;s have balcony%26#39;s and ocean views out the back. The front of the condo%26#39;s have sound views. For us the location was great. These are right on the beach. You are only steps from the ocean. The beach never got that crowded. The waves were rough but my husband loved it. Sometimes the waves too rough for kids. There is an outdoor pool and the kids loved playing there too.

If you need to do laundry there is no laundry in each unit. There is a public laundry area on the first floor. You have to pay for.

We did not have much luck finding good places to eat. We did like Rocco%26#39;s for Pizza and Calzone%26#39;s right down the road. The Shrimp Shack had good breakfast across the street. I was told that Sonny%26#39;s and Dinky%26#39;s waterfront are good for seafood but that was the end of our trip and we never made it there.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please let me know.

Tracy

We went there in August and this was one the best beach front location we have ever been. New condos very well furnished with large balcony on the beach. There is an elevator to bring all luggages to your floor. Beach in front is very nice, never crowded. Good fishing also. The sound on the back is great for windsurfing, jet skiing and kite surfing.

Location is close to the ferry going to Ocracoke, close to the Outerbanks National Park and much less crowded than Kitty Hawk or Nags Head

So very relaxing and great vacation

I am an owner at the Durant, actually Sept/ Oct are the best times to come down there. They are oceanfront, facing the beach, beautiful pool. The reason for the vacancies is that the word hasn%26#39;t gotten out yet. I have 3 units, all pet friendly, 203 (one bedroom, 2nd floor) 209 two bedroom, master bedroom on the beach. and 301 (top floor, wrap around deck) Contact outerbeaches realty concerning rental.

More questions? contact me at hokiedon@wildblue.net

I am actually writing this from the Durant Station condos. We are staying on the third floor (301) and have a great view of the ocean and the sound, as we have an end unit with a wrap around deck. I believe each floor has a view of the ocean as the first floor is not on ground level, but one level up. The beaches here are great, never crowded. We actually have been cooking in our room for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch. we did go to Dirty Dick%26#39;s the first night. I would not recommend. Not that great and pretty expensive for what we got. Rocco%26#39;s was good. The Pizza was great. I believe you could not go wrong with these condos, if what you are looking for is peace and quiet and to be able to relax at the beach. You should love it. We have had a great time so far.
