We%26#39;ve been to the OBX before but never to Corova Beach. We%26#39;re thinking of a rental location near the Fire Department...would our Nissan Pathfinder provide sufficient clearance to get to/from this location?
Corova Beach near Fire Dept
Four Wheel Drive is definitley a must. Last year my family spent a week in Carova. We all had 4 WD, except one niece who had an AWD SUV. She did
not get a mile up th beach. She had to be pulled out by a truck. If you have 4 WD,
the hassle is definitely worth it - even our 4 wd vehicles would sometimes get stuck.

Hi...We rent a place right down the street from the fire dept. Your pathfinder will be just fine however I strongly reccomend lowering the tire pressure to 20-25 lbs for traction over the ramp areas. Some of these ramps are quite chewed up. We are down there 4-5 times a year renting there. Other times we just go down for the day. We have a `91 full-size Blazer and have never been in trouble in the sand as it`s part time 4WD. Been driving the beaches for 38 years. New to this site but will help anyone with questions like this one so just ask! Hope this helped...see ya there and enjoy the place!
I%26#39;ve been hearing about the bugs being much worse on the 4x4 beaches. Is that true?? And what kind of bugs are they talking about?? We are headed down this weekend to North Swan Beach. This is our first time on this part of the beach. Any helpful hints?? Also are you allowed to have fires on the Beach??
Thanks so much for any info that you can provide!!!

Green head flies can be a real problem on the beach. Depends how the wind is blowing as to how much of a problem you will have.
Be prepared and keep some bug spray with you at all times-get the good stuff-the bugs eat right through the skins so soft.
Thanks so much. I can deal with flys. It%26#39;s those giant palmetto/ roach looking things that freak me out!!
As long as it has four wheel drive, a Pathfinder should be just fine on the beach. Just be careful when going through puddles and entering the beach. Stay in other%26#39;s tracks and don%26#39;t go too fast.
We are renting for the 1st time in Carova for a family reunion. My son wants to bring his 19 ft boat for wake boarding etc. We were told by the rental agent there is a boat ramp near the Fire Dept. Any advice for boaters?? Thanks.
