Fishing at Holden Beach

My Hubby and I are celebrating our 6th anniversary in the Holden Beach area this weekend!! I am so excited!!

I wonder if anyone can give me some info on good surf fishing locations, whether or not there is a pier to fish from, and where one can use a cast net locally along with what can be caught? What about chartered fishing?

Do you need a salt water fishing license?

We will be staying at a friends home, 4 miles inland...so we%26#39;ll be eating in more than out...cooking our own meals. I read that fresh shrimp is available near the bridge? Is that still accurate? And can someone be more specific about the location of said bridge?

Any other information is GREATLY appreciated!!!

You can surf fish anywhere along the beach. I would suggest trying the East end Inlet ( towards Oak Island). There is limited parking in that area. There is also Holden Beach fishing pier where you can ocean fish for a fee. The Town also just built a pier on the I C Waterway ( under the Bridge ). It is free. Cast nets are normally used to catch bait along the shoreline. A license is required and can be purchased at the tackle shop just before the bridge. I think your do not need a license to fish off the ocean pier or charter boat...included in the fee.

Try Holden Beach Seafood for shrimp .. no street vendors this early... I think. Bridge is on highway 130 East ...you can%26#39;t miss it.

Happy anniversary!

Fishing at Holden Beach

Forgot to mention a seafood place...Captain Pete%26#39;s..under the bridge...very good.

Thanks Riven! We are here! We LOVE Holden Beach!!!!

We fished all day today from the HB pier.

We didn%26#39;t catch anything really, just sharks and a couple smaller mullets...oh and a pin fish.

HOWEVER, there was one thing to make the day memorable for us: I dropped my husband%26#39;s favorite rod and reel into the OCEAN.

(Reason # 1 million gazillion and 1 why you should NEVER leave your wife to watch your line.)

He didn%26#39;t kill me, btw.

We ate at the Paradise Cafe today for lunch. WHAT A KKILLER huge Shrimp Po Boy! WOW!! It was GREAT! and the Service was Wonderful as well.

There are some very nice folks who have a Chinese

restaurant on the inland side (next to the Food Lion.) The food was good there. (We got take out for dinner last night.)

We ate our dinner tonite on the pier as we fished. The little cafe at the pier has a very tasty short order grill.

I definitely recommend HB to EVERYONE.

Oh and for the better part of the evening, we had a wonderful conversation as we fished with the pastor of a local church Sabbath Home Baptist. He was a very nice fellow. We will definitely be visiting that church on our visits!

Glad you folks are having a good time, well, except for the fishing pole.

A friend was fishing with me on my boat last year and dropped his cell phone in the Ocean while trying to get a fish on board. We kept pretending to call him to see if the fish would answer. He didn%26#39;t see the humor.. So don%26#39;t feel too bad.

Try the General Tso%26#39;s chicken at the Chinese Place ..my favorite. I walk in and they say General Tso%26#39;s chicken?

We had a great time, aside from the pole incident. I will definitely be returning and try the General Tso%26#39;s! I appreciate your help! I%26#39;ll let you know when we go next time, so maybe you can tell us some really good spots for fishing or other neat info. I take it, from the fact that you eat the chinese regularly, that you are a local?

I do live here, on one of the canals. Glad you folks had a great visit. Feel free to ask more questions anytime.

Happy Travels

OOOHH! I am jealous of you! To live there AND live on a canal! WOW! AWESOME! Good for you! We%26#39;ll talk to you before our next trip for more advice! Take care!
