Late June vac. in Atlantic beach - suggestions for fun???

We are vacationing at the Peppertree Atlantic beach resort form June 20h, - June 27th, 2009. Looking for suggestions/information on fun/interesting things to do while we%26#39;re there - can%26#39;t lay on the beach the whole time, gotta see some of coastal NC!! - also, need suggestions on a nearby car rental. Any info / websites/ links you can post here would be appreciated! ALSO: best place to fish nearby?

You can fish from any of the beaches but there may be times when you are not allowed. You need a fishing license if you fish from the beach though. If you fish from one of the pier%26#39;s, which I prefer, you do not need a license as the fee that you pay to fish from the pier covers a portion of the ';blanket'; license that the pier purchases every year. Are there going to be kids with you? There are tons of things to do all along the coast. We like to go to Beaufort and walk around the town and then catch a ferry over to Shackleford Bank for a day at the beach. It is a great place to go shelling.

Definitely Beaufort. You can watch them bringing in the catch at the Morehead city docks or the marina on the causeway. The acquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is worth a visit. Have a shrimp burger at El%26#39;s Walk down Ocean Ridge Dr. which is right behind Peppertree.Catch some good live beach music at The watermark at Atlantic Station. There are some pretty good art galleries in Morehead ad Beaufort and DeeGee%26#39;s bookstore in Morehead is a good rainy day option.
