Aurora Fossil Museum

The kid in me is addicted to searching for shark%26#39;s teeth. I book vacations to Manasota Key on the Gulf in Florida just to spend the days collecting them. I%26#39;m thrilled to find any size. I%26#39;m thinking of flying to NC to visit the %26#39;Pit of the Pungo%26#39; across from the Museum. I%26#39;ve requested permission to go into the PCS Mine to dig, but it seems they%26#39;re only selecting actual groups. Has anyone ever dug through this pile, this time of year who could tell me if it%26#39;s worth a trip? Also, is there an area of beach nearby that%26#39;s worth searching? Do you know of any guides or expiditions in the area? Also any leads on a very cheap room would be greatly appreciated. I%26#39;m thinking about a 4-5 day stay. Thanks for your help in advance.

Aurora Fossil Museum

I have never been to the Fossil Museum, but have heard good things. I know they just had the Fossil Festival a couple weekends ago and some friends went and enjoyed it. BUT, I also know that the ';dirt'; from there is used as pathway gravel all over that area, so whenever we go down to Little Washington (across the river from Aurora) and go to a state park or whatever, my kids spend more time looking for sharks teeth on the paths than anything else. So, I am guessing that if there is a big pile in Aurora, that is added to often and not picked over by tons of people, it would be good. Cause my kids always come home with pockets full of sharks teeth from our trips down east!
