We will be in Winston-Salem the week of June 11-18. I could really use some advice on activites and places to eat. We have 2 kids, ages 8 and 10. My daughter is in a school program at Wake Forest. So we need to fill the days with our 8 year old son and look for activities for the entire family on the weekend and at night. What activites are in the area and what restaurants are good, but reasonable in price? I would appreciate any advice.

Here are some daytime activities to consider for your son:
Sciworks--science museum geared towards kids, with lots of hands-on activities and exhibits. See http://www.sciworks.org/
Children%26#39;s Museum of WS-- see http://www.childrensmuseumofws.org/index.html
Old Salem-- http://www.oldsalem.org/
Tanglewood Park-- a huge facility with lots to do, like feeding ducks, swimming, horseback riding, climbing a locomotive, or just walking around. See http://www.co.forsyth.nc.us/Tanglewood/
And if you can%26#39;t find enough to do in Winston, consider the following (all are within a hour%26#39;s drive):
Celebration Station (located in Greensboro, about 25 minutes or so from Winston-Salem)-- kids recreation park with miniature golf, batting cages, bumper boats, arcade games, etc. See www.celebrationstation.com/index.php…
Emerald Point (also in Greensboro)--a water park. See http://www.emeraldpointe.com/
The Lazy 5 Ranch (in Mooresville, about 45 minutes)-- a drive-through animal park (or ride their horse-drawn wagons) featuring exotic animals from all over the world. Kids really love this place! See http://www.lazy5ranch.com/aroundtheranch.htm
NC Zoo (in Asheboro, about an hour%26#39;s drive)-- one of the best natural-habitat zoos in the country. See http://www.nczoo.org/
Hanging Rock State Park-- about 30 minutes away, offers hiking, fishing, swimming. See www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/haro/main.php
Kid-friendly restaurants include:
Mellow Mushroom (pizza)
River Birch Lodge
Twin City Diner
Elizabeth%26#39;s Pizza
Oh, and Chuck E. Cheese :)

Good ideas from Arbyunc.
I think Sciworks is pretty cool for a young boy.
Tanglewood Park is nice for being outside. Might be a bit hot in June.
Emerald Point is fun if you want to go to an admission water park.
Instead of the NC Zoo, I%26#39;d suggest the Nature Science Center in Greensboro. They often put the animals up at the Zoo (in the heat). The Nature Science Center just did a huge renovation and added many animals and exhibits.
If you want to try some Lexington style BBQ, try Pig Pickin%26#39;s over near the Joel Coliseum.
