I was just browsing through the forum- very good site http://www.smokymtngetaways.net/w/lots of info. I%26#39;m a little afraid of the thought of driving at 1000%26#39;s of ft up in the air ! But need a break from a big city and want to try a more wholesome and nature oriented vacation. Planning on staying in Dillsboro about 5-6 days and venturing to do some of the local ctivities. Is there a must see/do for an 11 yr old ? Which area should we stay away from as far as possible dangerous roads ? and how safe is it to drive from Cherokee(want to see the play )@ night back to Dillsboro ? Would appreciate any advise
Thanks,
AG
First Timers !
The roads are fine! There are local residents who live there year round and drive them year round. You%26#39;ll be able to see some of the most beautiful tree covered mountains that you have ever seen. To drive to Cherokee would be a snap!
If you remember the movie ';The Fugitive';, you%26#39;ll be able to see some of the props used because parts of it were shot just about a mile south of Dillsboro along the tracks of the Great Smoky Mountain RR which run along the Tuckasegee River (shallow and raftable a few miles down river.
