Disappointed that Asheville allows smoking in restaurants

We visited Asheville last weekend and were shocked when we went to a restaurant to be asked whether we wanted smoking or non-smoking. I thought a town that is promoted as being progressive would have a no-smoking policy for all restaurants.

What were they smoking?

You won%26#39;t have to worry about that after 2010............

In the early 1990s, the state of North Carolina passed a law that says individual cities could not enact their own restaurant smoking ban. So don%26#39;t blame Asheville, they probably would have if they could%26#39;ve done so. (However, logically, you could blame that restaurant...many have gone smoke-free on their own.)

That is changing though....as of January 2, 2010, all public restaurants in North Carolina will be smoke-free. Hope you will come back!

Ahh, your post reminds me of one of our worst dinners while traveling--it was in Asheville and the smoke in the ';non-smoking'; section was suffocating. I think we looked at the menu, ordered something quickly and left as fast as we could.
