Restaurants

Any restaurant in or not too far from Emerald Isle to get some steamed crabs?

Restaurants

Mrs. Culpepper%26#39;s in Morehead City - on Hwy 70 just north of the Hwy 24 intersection - is fabulous! A combination of Thai food (Mrs. Culpepper is Thai) and great local crabs. (Mr. Culpepper is a local waterman)

Thanks for the info....your playin my song!

I like Sanitary Fish Market in Morehead City.

Hey Keeners1,

There are several fish markets that offer live crabs to steam at home...Phillips in Swansboro 910 326 4468, Cap%26#39;n Willis Seafood Market in Emerald Isle 252 354 2500, Willis%26#39; in Salter Path 252 247 2752. Restuarants: T and W%26#39;s Oyster Bar Swansboro 252 393 8838 and The Crab%26#39;s Claw in Atlantic Beach 252 726 8222. During soft shell season Riverside in Swansboro 910 326 8847 and Kathryn%26#39;s 252 354 6200 in Emerald Isle offer wonderful dinners.

You can always catch your own, depending on where you are staying..if you have access to the sound.

Have fun.

Hey wishiwasthere8 - any chance the phillips that you speak of is related to the phillips chain in Maryland? We%26#39;re regular EIers from Baltimore and enjoy the Phillips franchise.

The Phillips in Swansboro is not related to the Baltimore Phillips. I grew up outside D.C. so I am familiar with the Md. house. This is a locally owned fish house that sells straight off the water, boats docked right there.

Sounds better than Phillips in MD. We like them b/c they are an institution and have good crabcakes. However we prefer non-chains, fresh fish, independent owners, etc. Thanks for clarifying; we%26#39;ll be sure to check them out when we%26#39;re down this summer.

Hey,

Absolutely the best crabcakes and lobster cakes here in this area are at Carltons in Indian Beach..on hwy 58 between Emerald Isle and Atlantic Beach.

Very good fresh crabcakes to cook at home available at Capn WIllis Seafood in Emerald Isle. They also have deviled crab and frozen crab claws.

We%26#39;ve seen the ads for Carltons and driven by it each summer. Would you say they are ';fine dining?'; Our potential problem with that is we have our 4 year old with us....

We%26#39;ll be down for TWO weeks this summer, so we will have time to travel around a bit more...Beaufort and beyond. Do you have any other great seafood suggestions (that would be toddler tolerant)?

Where in D.C. are you from? What brought you down to EI? Ah....we would if we could......

I agree that Carlton%26#39;s crab cakes are fabulous. A great place for brunch.

You need to know, however, that they have moved. They are about a half mile closer to EI and on the other side of the road. They are located in a pretty spiffy complex now. We were in the area a few weeks ago and they were not open yet. I think they re-opened on Mother%26#39;s Day.

I%26#39;m not sure it%26#39;s the best place to take a small child.
